WCGBR: News & Updates

President's Prose

Welcome to the Women’s Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s website. It’s hard to believe that it is already the middle of the summer! It is hot, hot, hot! I hope you are keeping cool. On July 4th, we culminated celebrations and observances honoring our country’s Independence Day. As we go forward, please remember the true reason we celebrate this holiday. And let us thank and remember those who have sacrificed to defend our liberty and our rights – our courageous veterans and the brave military service men and women. We owe our freedom to them.
I am happy to announce that the WCGBR Community Service Project for 2017 is the Red Shoes - a great community service organization. Join us in support of their mission by participating in and promoting the many and varied activities and events offered to the community and additionally by making a financial contribution to help keep their doors open to all. Visit their website to see what’s happening at the Red Shoes today HERE!
The 2017 Women’s Week Steering Committee, co-chaired by Sherie Thomas and Monique Piper, has been hard at work developing an exciting agenda to be presented October 6-15, to the women of the greater Baton Rouge Community. Our committees do the real work of the Council. Please join in their efforts as many more volunteers are needed to help make this event most successful for all. Thanks to De’Anna Ernst, Web Administrator, for helping to update our website, where you will find up to date information about all the events going on within the WCGBR and its community partners.  Work on our website is still in progress as we strive to make more needed improvements.
Since you are here visiting our website or Facebook page, there is a good chance you are already involved in the WCGBR. Please keep it up! Your continued interest and participation in our meetings and activities is vital. Our events and activities give us a unique framework for opportunities for women to connect with each other. Our general membership meetings are held every second Thursday at the Goodwood Library. I encourage each of you to invite another member or potential member to join you at our next meeting or event. Seek out those women who would benefit from the networking, friendship, leadership, opportunities, and encouragement that our members provide each other. You might make all the difference in their world. I hope you find the information here valuable and we encourage you to contact us with any suggestions or questions. Please continue your support for this outstanding and volunteer driven community organization.
Keep cool and carry on!
Paula M. Braxton, President
